    FACE Music Festival to be held in the picturesque Passu village of Gojal Valley, Hunza

    Islamabad: The Foundation for Arts, Culture and Education (FACE) has joined hands with the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) to take the premium festival of the capital, “Music Mela”, to Passu, Hunza, on the 6th and 7th of August 2017.

    The festival will take place at Passu Cricket Ground in front of the famous Passu Cones, celebrating the scenic beauty of GB along with musicians from across Pakistan as well as from that area. The festival will have music and various local food and craftsmen’s stalls to promote the enriched culture of Hunza.

No doubt it was a historic moment that such a good initiative was taken by the government for the first time; to reduce the dire effects of climate change.

    2017 Shandur Polo Festival to start on July 29

    The 2017 Shandur Polo festival is all set to kick off on July 29. Meanwhile, a 23 members polo team from GB has reached Phander in Ghizer valley for the purpose of practice. The festival held at the world’s highest polo ground Shandur is a major tourist attraction. Polo, known as the king of games and game of kings was introduced by the spirited people of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

    Later, the British discovered and promoted it.

    UNESCO’s Endangered Languages Project has declared Wakhi a vulnerable language. According to one estimate, only 40,000 native speakers of this language are left in the world. Out of these, roughly 10,000 reside in the Hunza Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan Province, Pakistan.

    In 2016, USAID, through its U.S. Ambassador’s Fund, awarded a one-year grant to the Gulmit Educational and Social Welfare Society, a civil society organization based in Hunza, for the preservation of the near-extinct Wakhi language and culture by teaching music, arranging concerts, and documenting folk songs.

    Ginani Festival celebrated in 700 years old Baltit Fort, Hunza

    Traditional “Ginani” Festival was celebrated at the Baltit Fort in Hunza. Governor Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan, titular Mir of Hunza, presided over the ceremony, wearing the royal costumers of his father, Mir Muhammad Jamal Khan, the last Mir of Hunza.

    GB Tourism Minister Fida Khan Fida, MLA Rani Atiqa Ghazanfar, and officials of the district administration also attended the festival. Local elders and youth, as well as a large number of tourists, were present during the celebration of the seasonal, agricultural, festival.

    RAWALPINDI (AwesomePakistan): Officials at the Lohi Bher Safari Park have taken the unprecedented step of caging up the lions for fear they may become a victim to rampant land grab.

    The wildlife and safari park had been set up 25 years ago in the twin cities. Conceived in 1988 and opened in 1992, the park boasted massive enclosures sprawling over 1,050 acres of forest land. But over the years, the park has fallen into disrepair. Moreover, there was a free-for-all over the park’s land, which has seen its estate shrink to just 450 acres.

    Gilgit: Inayat Ali Shigri recently visited Attabad Lake, the newest tourist attraction in Gojal Valley of District Hunza. He found an iPhone 7 precariously left on a chair at the View Point, along the Karakoram Highway. “There was no network at the place so i took the phone with myself, while driving back towards Gilgit”, Inayat wrote in a piece posted of Facebook.

    While on his way to Gilgit, Inayat writes, he received a call, with a person asking about the phone that he had lost. The caller said that he belonged to Islamabad and was visiting Khunzhrav Top, another famous tourist spot in Gojal valley, Hunza.

    GB forest department launches plantation drive in Moorkhoon

    Moorkhoon: The Gilgit-Baltistan forest department has initiated plantation drive across the region. Six thousand Deodara saplings were recently planted in Moorkhoon village under the initiative.Moorkhoon:

    The plantation drive is a part of the eight years long Green Pakistan project. DFO Raja M. Arif and RFO Zahid inaugurated the plantation in collaboration with the local community.

    GILGIT: Samar Khan, 25-year-old adventure biker, has become the first Pakistani to climb the 6,250-metre Burbucho peak in Arandu area of Shigar district.

    After her climb, the peak has been named ‘Samar Peak’.

    Resident of Islamabad, Ms Khan has also made a national record of cycling on the peak.
